Mollie payments in Europe
Mollie provides online and in-person payments for small and mid-sized businesses in Europe. It completed the acquisition of GoCardless on September 1, 2026, adding bank payments, direct debits and open banking services to the group.
Online and in-person payments for European businesses
Mollie is a payment provider for businesses in Europe and the UK. It serves more than 250,000 businesses across Europe with a team of about 1,000 people. Besides online and in-person payments, Mollie offers business accounts and financing.
GoCardless becomes part of Mollie
Mollie agreed to buy GoCardless in December 2025 (tech.eu), and GoCardless now calls itself "a Mollie company" (GoCardless). GoCardless provides bank payments to more than 100,000 businesses, with open banking connections to more than 2,300 banks across the UK and Europe. The companies plan to bring GoCardless's bank payments into Mollie Connect, so that software platforms take card and bank payments through one integration (FinTech Global).
Direct debit and open banking payments
GoCardless built its business on recurring direct debits and added one-off bank payments over open banking in 2021, under the name Instant Bank Pay (GoCardless). A direct debit pulls money on a mandate and can be returned by the payer; an open banking payment is pushed by the payer from the bank app and settles as a transfer. SEPA direct debit and payment initiation services explain the two models, and variable recurring payments the step that combines them.

Online and in-person payments, payment links, recurring payments and invoicing, plus business accounts and financing. Through GoCardless it adds direct debits and open banking payments.
What is an open banking payment?
The payer approves a transfer in the bank's own app, started by a licensed payment initiation provider, and the money moves directly from account to account. Account-to-account payments covers the model in Europe.
