The Tezos blockchain in finance
Societe Generale registers structured products on the Tezos public blockchain, and its digital asset unit SG-FORGE used Tezos in the Banque de France's experiments with settlement in wholesale central bank money. Tezos is a proof-of-stake blockchain whose rules change through on-chain votes, without a hard fork.
Proof of stake and protocol upgrades
Tezos is an open-source blockchain for digital assets and applications. Arthur and Kathleen Breitman created it in 2014 and the network launched in 2018, according to the Tezos documentation. It runs on proof of stake with the native token tez (XTZ). Token holders vote on protocol upgrades, and an accepted upgrade goes live without splitting the chain.
Securities settlement in central bank money
The Banque de France ran nine experiments with wholesale central bank digital currency and published its report in November 2021. Societe Generale-FORGE was among the firms it selected, and SG-FORGE chose Tezos for its experiment on the delivery and settlement of securities against a digital euro.
SG-FORGE names Tezos next to Ethereum as a public blockchain on which it registers structured products of the Societe Generale group.
