Morpho: the crypto lending protocol
In September 2025 SG-FORGE, the digital asset subsidiary of Société Générale, opened vaults on Morpho in which its euro and dollar stablecoins EURCV and USDCV can be lent and borrowed. Morpho is an open lending network on blockchain. Dated events on the topic are in the calendar below.
Stablecoin lending: the SG-FORGE vaults
The SG-FORGE release of September 30, 2025 says the opening of vaults on Morpho "allows lending and borrowing in USDCV and EURCV". Borrowers post wrapped bitcoin, wrapped staked ether (wstETH) or the tokenized money market funds USTBL and EUTBL issued by Spiko. The asset manager MEV Capital acts as curator and supervises the list of crypto-assets accepted as collateral. On the same day Uniswap became the spot market for both tokens, with Flowdesk as market maker; the Uniswap page describes that market.
For a payment firm or treasurer with euro stablecoins on the balance sheet, a vault of this kind pays interest on idle balances, funded by borrowers who post collateral. The lender carries the risk that the collateral falls faster than it can be liquidated, and the risk of the contracts themselves. The SG-FORGE page describes the issuer, and the euro stablecoins page the other euro tokens.
Morpho Blue, Morpho Midnight and Morpho Vaults
Morpho Blue is, in Morpho's words, "the variable rate, open term lending market primitive". Each market pairs one loan asset with one collateral asset and fixes the oracle and the liquidation threshold when it is created, so a bad debt in one market stays in that market. Morpho Midnight is "the fixed rate, fixed term lending market primitive", where lenders and borrowers agree on a rate and a maturity. Morpho Vaults are "the curated capital allocation layer": a curator spreads deposits across approved markets within onchain risk limits.
Aave works differently: many assets share one pool, and Aave governance sets the risk parameters for all of them. Morpho's site reports "$16B+ in deposits" and "30+ audits to date" and names Société Générale, Apollo, Anchorage, Bitwise, Coinbase and Kraken among the firms that use it. Morpho tells the SG-FORGE case on its Société Générale story page.
Lending outside MiCA
MiCA states in recital 94 that it does not cover the lending and borrowing of crypto-assets, and recital 22 leaves services provided in a fully decentralized manner out of scope. The joint report of the EBA and ESMA of January 2025 reviews crypto lending and finds that lending protocols are the most frequently attacked part of DeFi. A bank that lends its own stablecoin through a vault stays under MiCA as issuer, while the loan itself falls under no EU crypto rule. The crypto lending page compares the models, and DeFi risks covers the controls.

What is the Morpho protocol?
Morpho is a lending protocol on Ethereum and other chains. Lenders deposit assets into isolated markets or curated vaults, and borrowers take loans against collateral at variable or fixed rates.
What is a Morpho vault curator?
A curator decides which markets a vault lends into and sets the limits for each. In the SG-FORGE vaults the curator is MEV Capital, which also supervises the list of accepted collateral.
How is Morpho different from Aave?
Aave pools many assets in one market under risk parameters set by governance. Morpho Blue creates a separate market for each pair of loan and collateral asset, and vault curators choose among those markets.
Does MiCA regulate Morpho?
MiCA does not cover crypto lending and borrowing and leaves fully decentralized services out of scope. A stablecoin lent through Morpho is still regulated through its issuer.
Morpho and Finance Loop
Finance Loop covers Morpho in its Payments & Digital Money track, where stablecoin balances earn interest, and in Investment & Digital Assets, where secured lending and tokenized funds meet DeFi. Payment firms that hold euro stablecoins meet asset managers and DeFi teams at Finance Loop events in Frankfurt.
