Veriff identity verification for financial services

Veriff checks that a new customer is a real person holding a real ID: it reads the document, compares it with a selfie and looks for signs of fraud with AI. Banks, crypto platforms and payment firms use it at onboarding and later to log a customer in with a selfie in place of a password.

Identity verification with Veriff

Veriff is a platform for identity verification and authentication. The company was established in Estonia in 2015 (Veriff). It says it supports more than 12,500 government-issued ID documents from over 230 countries and territories, in 50 languages and dialects, and combines AI identity verification, biometric matching and checks against registries.

Veriff for banks and crypto firms

For financial services, Veriff offers document verification, passwordless log-in with a selfie, ongoing PEP and sanctions checks for AML and KYC, AI-based fraud detection in real time and automated address checks (Veriff). It addresses banks, lenders, payment firms and crypto platforms with separate offers. A German bank uses such checks within the identification duties that KYC in Germany describes.

Deepfakes and identity checks

Veriff's Deepfakes Report 2026, produced with Kantar, surveyed 3,000 adults in the UK, the US and Brazil. British respondents scored 0.07 on a scale from -1 to 1 at telling real from manipulated content, where 0 is random guessing, even though 74 percent of them said they knew what a deepfake is (Veriff). Deepfake onboarding attacks target the camera feed or the image submitted during an identity check. Veriff's passive liveness check tests whether a person is present without requiring a prescribed movement. Optional background video adds evidence to the check; the final access decision remains with the business.
