Checkout.com
Checkout.com is a payment company in London that processes online payments for large businesses. Guillaume Pousaz founded it in 2012, and its merchants include Uber, eBay, Spotify, Pinterest and HelloFresh. A merchant connects to Checkout.com once and can then accept card and wallet payments from customers in many countries.
As an acquirer, Checkout.com sends each card payment through the card networks to the bank that issued the card and pays the funds out to the merchant after a fraud check. Its AI engine Intelligent Acceptance adjusts payment requests so that card issuers approve more of them. The company also issues cards for merchants and sends payouts, with about 2,300 employees worldwide.
Acquiring for enterprise merchants
Checkout.com processed more than $300 billion in payments in 2025, 64 percent more than a year earlier, and returned to full-year profitability. By September 2026, the company operated in 56 countries with more than 1,700 enterprise merchants and expected a total payment volume of $480 billion for the year. Checkout.com holds 10 acquiring licenses and processes payments in more than 150 currencies from 19 offices.
Flow is the checkout component of Checkout.com, and one integration gives a merchant ready-made payment fields with more than 35 payment methods. With Flow Remember Me, launched worldwide on 8 October 2025, a shopper saves a card once and pays at other Checkout.com merchants without typing the number again. The card schemes pursue a similar goal with Click to Pay, a card profile that works across merchants and payment providers. Forrester named Checkout.com a Leader in its evaluation of merchant payment providers for the first quarter of 2026.
Agentic commerce: ACP, UCP and the card schemes
In agentic commerce, an AI agent picks products for a person and pays for them. On 25 November 2025, Checkout.com announced support for the Agentic Commerce Protocol, the open standard backed by OpenAI, so that its merchants can sell through Instant Checkout in ChatGPT. Checkout.com is building identity checks and fraud prevention for these payments, and the merchant keeps the customer relationship when an agent places the order.
In February 2026, Checkout.com reported that it was live with the Universal Commerce Protocol of Google and supported Visa Intelligent Commerce as well as Agent Pay, the framework of Mastercard for agent payments. Research by Checkout.com expects agentic commerce to reach 21 percent of monthly household spending within five years. In September 2026, the company said it would speed up its AI work, including agentic commerce and agent payments.
Stablecoin settlement and stablecoin acceptance
Checkout.com first settled merchant funds in USDC in June 2022, with the payout technology of Fireblocks, after a private beta had moved more than $300 million. The service let merchants receive their money every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays. Since June 2026, eligible enterprise merchants in the United States can take settlement in stablecoins to a wallet of their choice, in every state except New York, Virginia and Alaska, and not in Puerto Rico.
On 2 June 2026, at Money20/20 Europe, Checkout.com added stablecoin acceptance powered by Coinbase Payments, so that enterprise merchants can take stablecoin payments from shoppers. In January 2026, Checkout.com bought Blue EMI, an electronic money institution authorized by the Bank of Lithuania to provide payment services and to issue euro-backed stablecoins for institutional use. Checkout.com also opened a technology center in Vilnius and named direct SEPA access through CENTROlink, the payment system of the Bank of Lithuania, as one reason for the location.
Licenses in the UK, the EU, the US and the UAE
In the United Kingdom, Checkout Ltd is authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money institution under number 900816. The French company Checkout SAS holds an e-money license from the ACPR under number 17208, and this license is passported to all states of the European Economic Area, Germany included. Other group companies hold licenses or registrations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, Canada, Brazil and the UAE, where the central bank licenses Checkout MENA for retail payment services.
In the United States, the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance approved a Merchant Acquirer Limited Purpose Bank charter for Checkout.com in January 2026. Since 9 September 2026, Checkout.com acquires card payments directly in the US under this charter, with its own access to the card networks. The Central Bank of the UAE gave Checkout.com in-principle approval for a Stored Value Facilities license in July 2026, which allows card issuing next to acquiring there.
