Coinmerce

Coinmerce is a Dutch crypto broker where private investors buy, sell, store and earn rewards on more than 300 crypto assets, from bitcoin to the latest altcoins. Customers manage their portfolio in the Coinmerce app or in the browser, open an account in a few minutes and can let their crypto assets earn weekly rewards.

A small team in the Netherlands started Coinmerce in 2017, and the company has since grown into a group that also includes a market maker, an asset manager and a majority stake in a second crypto broker. In November 2025 the Dutch markets authority AFM authorized Coinmerce B.V. under MiCA.

From a small Dutch team to a European broker

The brothers Nick and Luc Smits van Oyen founded Coinmerce in 2017 with the goal of making crypto assets accessible to everyone, and Jaap de Bruijn leads the company as chief executive today. Over the years Coinmerce took over the Dutch customers of Binance and BUX and added the crypto fund manager Coinmerce Capital, formerly Icoinic, to its group.

With the MiCA authorization Coinmerce plans to enter Germany and France (in German), and the interim register already lists passports for Belgium, Germany, Spain, France and Poland. In the Netherlands Coinmerce has partnerships with the football club AJAX and with The Padellers.

Authorization under MiCA

The AFM authorized Coinmerce B.V. under Article 63 of MiCA on 5 November 2025, according to the interim register of ESMA. The authorization covers custody and administration of crypto assets, exchange of crypto assets for money and for other crypto assets, and transfers on behalf of clients.

The register lists five passport countries, Belgium, Germany, Spain, France and Poland, so Coinmerce can serve clients there without a branch. With a CASP license a provider can add more EEA states later through a notification that its supervisor passes on.

Custody, banking partner and compliance tools

Coinmerce stores customer assets at an institutional level through its custody service, which keeps them apart from the assets of the company. The neobank bunq is the banking partner that moves euros to and from customer accounts, and Chainalysis is a partner for blockchain analysis.

Within the group, the market maker Quantfi provides liquidity and keeps the spread between buy and sell prices small. The asset manager of the group runs what Coinmerce calls the longest-running crypto investment fund in the Netherlands.

What is Coinmerce?

Coinmerce is a crypto broker from the Netherlands that sells more than 300 crypto assets in euros, holds them in custody and pays rewards on some of them. The AFM supervises Coinmerce B.V. under MiCA for custody, exchange and transfers of crypto assets.

The app for web and mobile

The Coinmerce app for iOS and Android covers buying, selling, earning and portfolio tracking, and the browser version gives the same overview on a laptop. New customers create an account and make their first investment in one flow, and the app shows the value of every holding in real time.

Yield of up to 14 percent

The Yield service pays automatic weekly rewards of up to 14 percent a year on selected crypto assets. Coinmerce points out that Yield is not covered by MiCA or any other EU financial law, so it lacks the safeguards of the regulated services and carries its own risks.

Sending and withdrawing crypto assets

Customers send crypto assets from Coinmerce to an external wallet or another exchange and receive crypto assets from outside the platform. Under the EU travel rule Coinmerce records the data of sender and recipient, and euros go back to the bank account of the customer through the banking partner bunq.

The Coinmerce group

Coinmerce B.V. runs the broker platform, Quantfi works as market maker and Coinmerce Capital manages a crypto investment fund. The group also holds a majority stake of 51 percent in the crypto app BLOX, and both platforms keep their own brands.
