European Fintech Association

The European Fintech Association, or EFA, is a not-for-profit association in Brussels that represents fintech companies of all sizes from across the EU. Its more than 30 members work in payments, lending, digital banking, robo-advice, investment and software for financial services, among them Adyen, Klarna, N26, Revolut, Stripe and Wise.

EFA sees itself as the first organization to represent fintech companies of all sizes across the EU and as a forum where companies, policymakers and the public exchange information. The association answers consultations of the European Commission and the European Banking Authority and publishes position papers on payments, anti-money laundering rules, open finance, the digital euro and AI.

Members of the association

The members of EFA include payment providers such as Adyen, SumUp, Stripe, Nium and PayPal, together with the direct debit specialist GoCardless. Digital banks are represented by N26, Monzo and Revolut, money transfers by Wise and buy now, pay later by Klarna, while Satispay runs a mobile payment app.

On the investment side, Raisin runs a marketplace for savings products, Upvest provides investment infrastructure for apps and Moonfare gives investors access to private equity funds. Further members of the association are Block, Advanzia, Mintos, Tink, Insurely, viafintech, 42flows, FIRE, Finovox and Nexo.

President and board of directors

On 18 June 2026, the members elected a new board of nine, with Linda Strazdiņa of Wise as President and Marc Roberts of Raisin as Treasurer. The other board members are Sandrell Sultana of Stripe, Paul Mortby of Block, Sergio Tringali of Revolut, Laura Schulz of Klarna, Patrick Häuser of N26, Matti Salakari of PayPal and Laura Contin of Monzo. Lucia Pecchini is Secretary General and heads the secretariat of the association in Brussels.

Payments, fraud and the digital euro

Many positions of EFA deal with payments, from PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation to instant payments and the digital euro legislation. In November 2025, EFA and the European Digital Payments Industry Alliance called for a shared liability regime for impersonation fraud under Article 59 of the regulation. Their reason is that more than half of these scams start on social media, phone networks or messaging apps, while payment service providers alone have to refund the victims.

Earlier papers of the association dealt with virtual IBANs, with refund rights for merchant-initiated transactions and with a joint industry letter on fraud prevention from June 2024.

Upcoming fintech and finance events in Belgium

Open finance and FiDA

EFA supports the Financial Data Access Regulation and calls it the catalyst for open finance in the EU. In its position of December 2025, the association asks to keep deposit data out of the scope, to exclude gatekeepers and their subsidiaries as data users and to set realistic deadlines for the technical standards.

Anti-money laundering and tech sovereignty

On anti-money laundering, EFA has commented on the EU AML package with its regulation and directive, and in July 2026 on draft technical standards for customer due diligence. In October 2026 the association answered the Tech Sovereignty Package of the European Commission and welcomed its open-source strategy. EFA asks to delete Article 31(3) of the proposed Cloud and AI Development Act, which could extend cloud sovereignty assessments to financial firms that already follow DORA.

Founding and address in Brussels

EFA dates its establishment to 2019 and presented itself to the public in June 2020, when it combined the two earlier groups EFAlliance and FinTechs4Europe. Marc Roberts, General Counsel at Raisin, led the first board as President of the association.

The association is registered in Belgium as European FinTech Association a.s.b.l. under the number 0741.453.152. Its contact address is Rond-Point Schuman 2-4 in 1040 Brussels, at the Schuman roundabout in the EU quarter, and its number in the EU Transparency Register is 514240237898-38.

European Fintech Association and Finance Loop

Payment firms, digital banks and the banks that work with them in the Finance Loop network follow the same EU files that EFA comments on, from the Payment Services Regulation to FiDA and the digital euro. Finance Loop discusses these rules in its Payments & Digital Money track, at events in Frankfurt and other European cities.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the institutional use of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
