Liechtenstein Bankers Association
The Liechtenstein Bankers Association (Liechtensteinischer Bankenverband) is the association of the banks operating in Liechtenstein. It was founded in 1969 and describes itself as the voice of these banks at home and abroad. Its members include LGT, the Liechtensteinische Landesbank, VP Bank, Bank Frick and Kaiser Partner Privatbank.
The association takes part in European lawmaking as a member of the European Banking Federation and the European Payments Council, and it works on sustainability, digitalization, anti-money laundering, regulation, tax and the training of bank staff. Ivo Klein is president, and Simon Tribelhorn is director.
Member banks
The member list names twelve banks: Bank Frick, Banking Circle (Liechtenstein), Banque Havilland (Liechtenstein), which is in voluntary liquidation, Bendura Bank, Celsion Bank, EFG Bank von Ernst, Kaiser Partner Privatbank, LGT Bank, Liechtensteinische Landesbank, Neue Bank, Sigma Bank and VP Bank. Other firms join as associate members.
Together the banks in the Liechtenstein financial center reported consolidated client assets of CHF 538.0 billion in 2025, including their foreign group companies, according to the FMA. CHF 239.5 billion of that sat with the banks in Liechtenstein itself.
European memberships and topics
Because Liechtenstein is in the EEA, EU banking law applies to its banks, and the association follows it in Brussels. It is a member of the European Banking Federation, the European Payments Council and the European Parliamentary Financial Services Forum, has been in the Public Affairs Council since 2017 and has been part of the Financial Centres for Sustainability network since March 2018.
The association has published on DORA, the EU rules on digital operational resilience, on double taxation agreements with Belgium, Latvia, Montenegro and Croatia, and on Liechtenstein's membership in the International Monetary Fund. It also runs bank apprenticeships, a graduate program and the Liechtenstein round of the European Money Quiz for school students.
