Portugal Fintech

Portugal Fintech is a non-profit association in Lisbon that supports the financial technology sector in Portugal and was founded in 2016. The association works mainly with fintech startups and extends its focus to insurtech, regtech and cybersecurity. Portugal Fintech connects the Portuguese fintech scene with the rest of the world, and fintech companies from abroad with Portugal.

Portugal Fintech is a network of people and companies, from startups to banks and insurers, and organizes its work around four pillars: incumbents, regulation, talent and investors. The association publishes the yearly Portugal Fintech Report on the fintech companies of the country. Together with the coworking company Sitio, Portugal Fintech runs Fintech House, a hub for fintech startups in Lisbon.

Portugal Fintech Report

The Portugal Fintech Report is the yearly study of Portugal Fintech on the fintech and insurtech companies of the country, and the 2026 edition is the tenth. Its data come from a questionnaire that fintech and insurtech companies in Portugal, or with operations there, fill in, and the report adds a map of the sector and profiles of selected startups. Experts score the applicants on their team, innovation, speed to market, benefits for consumers and external validation.

The 2025 edition counted a cumulative investment of more than 1.1 billion euros in Portuguese fintech companies, and almost 30 percent of the participating companies had been founded in the two years before. Of these companies, 74 percent use AI in their products and 90 percent in their internal operations. The report found more than 200 partnerships between fintechs and large companies, and 53 percent of them were agreed in less than six months.

Fintech House in Lisbon

Portugal Fintech announced Fintech House in 2019 and opened it in 2020 together with Sitio, one of the largest providers of shared workspaces in Portugal. The hub hosts fintech, insurtech, regtech and cybersecurity startups next to law firms, payment companies, consultancies, insurers and banks, and its auditorium holds talks, training sessions and events. Partners of Fintech House include the law firm Morais Leitão, Visa, KPMG, Fidelidade and BBVA.

Fintech House offers desks and offices, a virtual membership and events for banks and insurers that want to work with fintech companies. In January 2026, Essential Business counted more than 120 national and international fintech companies in the Fintech House community, which has helped to launch 17 startups.
