Quantoz

Quantoz is a Dutch company that issues digital money for blockchains. Its subsidiary Quantoz Payments is an electronic money institution and issues e-money tokens in euros, US dollars and pounds sterling, called EURQ, USDQ and GBPQ. Each token is backed by money held at banks and can be redeemed at par.

Companies use the tokens for payments, for transfers abroad and for the settlement of tokenized assets. Payment firms and trading venues connect to Quantoz to issue the tokens and move them between their customers. The company is based in Utrecht in the Netherlands.

From software firm to e-money institution

Quantoz N.V. was founded in Utrecht in 2015 and built digital money infrastructure for other companies. Quantoz Payments B.V. was incorporated in 2021, and De Nederlandsche Bank authorized it as an electronic money institution in 2023. EURQ and USDQ followed in November 2024 as e-money tokens under MiCA, and Kraken and Bitfinex listed both tokens from 21 November 2024.

Arjen van Klaarbergen and Gaston Hendriks lead the company as co-chief executives. Arjen van Klaarbergen is also chief legal officer and Gaston Hendriks chief technology officer. Folkert Miedema is chief financial officer, and Ron Berndsen chairs the supervisory board.

Reserves, blockchains and partners

Quantoz holds the reserves for its tokens at several large European banks, separate from its own money, and token holders can redeem them at par, as the rules for every e-money token require. Quantoz issues the tokens natively on Ethereum, Polygon, Algorand, Stellar, the XRP Ledger and Xahau, and connects them across chains with LayerZero.

Partners named by Quantoz include TerraPay, Archax, Zodia Markets and 21X, the Frankfurt trading and settlement venue for tokenized securities. The crypto exchange Kraken is a shareholder.
