Arab Bank Switzerland
Arab Bank Switzerland is a Swiss private bank founded in Zurich in 1962 and based in Geneva since 2012, supervised by FINMA and a sister company of Arab Bank plc in Amman. It serves wealthy private clients and institutions with wealth management, real estate, treasury and commodity trade finance from offices in Geneva, Zurich, Beirut and Dubai.
Since 2019 the bank has handled digital assets inside the regulated bank, starting with custody and trading of cryptocurrencies and adding staking, loans against crypto and legacy planning later. Clients trade in the banking app or through a discretionary mandate, and their coins sit off the balance sheet in segregated custody on technology from the Geneva firm Taurus.
Arab Bank Switzerland crypto: trading and staking
Clients buy and sell cryptocurrencies directly in the banking app or leave the trades to the bank under a discretionary mandate. The range includes bitcoin, ether and solana as well as the DeFi tokens Aave, Chainlink and Uniswap. The bank collects prices from several large exchanges and market makers and splits medium and large orders with an algorithm.
For proof-of-stake networks the bank runs staking on Ethereum and Solana, so clients earn rewards on coins they keep in their custody account. The bank names entrepreneurs, miners, long-term holders, traders, family offices, foundations and institutional clients as the users of its crypto services.
Bitcoin yield fund and loans against crypto
The Diamond Hands Fund aims to add bitcoin when prices fall, using options and volatility management, while it keeps the bitcoin principal intact. Arab Bank Switzerland created the fund with the crypto investment firm XBTO, which manages it, while the bank holds and monitors the assets.
Clients can also take crypto-backed loans against bitcoin or ether, for example to buy real estate, at a loan-to-value ratio of up to 40 percent. Specialists of the bank draw up estate plans for digital assets, and bank statements give auditors and tax advisers a reconciled record of every crypto position.
Custody on Taurus-PROTECT
The bank holds digital assets on its own premises with Taurus-PROTECT from Taurus, keeps them separate for each client and books them off its balance sheet. Its custody features are certified at FIPS Level 3, and key generation and key management carry an ISAE 3402 Type II report.
