CoinAPI

CoinAPI is a market data API for crypto assets that collects trades, quotes and order books from more than 400 exchanges and delivers them in one format. Developers connect over REST, WebSocket, FIX or the Model Context Protocol for AI agents, with software development kits for more than 15 programming languages. CoinAPI is part of API Bricks, which also runs trading APIs for exchanges.

The archive reaches back more than ten years, and paid plans come with a service level of 99.9 percent availability. Artur Pietrzyk, chief executive of CoinAPI, has said that the company officially started in 2017.

Historical data and flat files

Flat Files deliver the history as compressed files in Amazon S3 buckets, which suits backtests over many years and many exchanges. The same data is available through the REST API for smaller requests and through WebSocket streams in real time.

Order book data and WebSocket

The WebSocket stream sends trades, quotes and full order book updates as they happen, normalized to one symbol scheme across all exchanges. Trading teams use it to feed algorithms, and analysts use the same symbols to join the stream with historical data.

Exchange rates, indexes and trading

The Exchange Rates API returns rates between any two assets based on a volume-weighted average price, and the Indexes API publishes CoinAPI indexes such as PRIMKT and the volatility index CAPIVIX. The EMS Trading API and Exchange Link route orders to many exchanges through one interface.
