Fintech Hub LT

Fintech Hub LT is the earlier name of the Lithuanian Fintech Association, which represents licensed fintech companies in Lithuania and the European Economic Area. The association brings its members together to address the conditions for operating and developing financial services. Its work includes representing industry interests and supporting Lithuania as a fintech center.

The association's working groups address practical concerns such as compliance and financial crime prevention. Lithuania also provides a regulated base for payment firms and banks serving customers across European markets. Revolut illustrates that cross-border connection through its Lithuanian bank and German branch, with services governed by the customer's legal entity.

What the association does

The association works through four groups: a Financial Crime Group, a Compliance Group, an Information Security Group and a group for chief executives and country managers. They share practice, hold training sessions and meet regulators. With the Bank of Lithuania the association runs joint events on compliance, innovation and risk management, and it counted 45 events in one year, from regulator working groups to roundtables and product sessions.

Fintech Hub LT's goals for the coming years are a stable regulatory environment, a skilled talent base and a jurisdiction open to innovation. A chairman, Marius Galdikas, and a chief executive, Greta Ranonytė, lead it. When Magnetiq Bank joined as the first Latvian bank, the association described its purpose as protecting members' interests and promoting strong risk management and compliance standards.

The Bank of Lithuania and the license model

The Bank of Lithuania runs a program for newcomers, a single point for meetings with firms that plan to apply, and a regulatory sandbox for testing new services; it gives payment and electronic money institutions full access to its payment system, CENTROlink. By 2019 it had granted more than 110 licenses to fintech companies, and Lithuania ranked first in continental Europe for licensed electronic money institutions.

The Bank of Lithuania says it pays particular attention to anti-money laundering and security controls when it assesses applicants, and two of the association's four groups work on financial crime and compliance. An e-money license from Vilnius can be passported across the EU.

CENTROlink and instant payments

CENTROlink is the payment system of the Bank of Lithuania, open to payment and electronic money institutions. In 2025 it processed 379.7 million payments worth €838 billion, and 68 percent of them were instant payments, against about 23 percent in the euro area, according to the Bank of Lithuania. At the end of the year 138 payment service providers from twenty countries used it.

The central bank also added a Verification of Payee service to CENTROlink, so participants check the payee's name in the same system they pay through. German banks face the same EU obligation to apply verification of payee, and the Lithuanian numbers show what a market with instant payments as the default looks like.
