Kaiser Partner Privatbank

Kaiser Partner Privatbank is a family-owned private bank in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, established in 1977. Private clients, independent asset managers and funds buy and hold crypto-assets there in a custody account next to their securities, and the bank books these positions outside its balance sheet like securities, so they stay protected if the bank fails.

Under the Liechtenstein Blockchain Act the bank is registered as a token custodian, and since June 2026 it may offer crypto custody, order transmission, portfolio management and transfers across the European Economic Area under MiCA. Christian Reich is CEO, Fritz Kaiser chairs the board of directors, and the bank employs 153 people.

Crypto custody and trading at Kaiser Partner Privatbank

Kaiser Partner Privatbank holds 15 crypto-assets for its clients, among them Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Cardano, Solana, Polkadot, Avalanche, Chainlink, Litecoin, Stellar, Tezos and USD Coin. Clients buy them against Swiss francs, euros or dollars, or they swap one crypto-asset directly for another, for example bitcoin for ether. Trading runs only during the official trading hours of the bank.

Clients can also move supported coins such as BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL and USDC from an external wallet or another exchange into their crypto custody account, and they can withdraw positions again. Kaiser Partner or its correspondent bank, which FINMA supervises, keeps the coins in secured wallets, and a large part sits in cold storage on encrypted media without an internet connection.

Staking and crypto-assets as Lombard collateral

On request, the bank stakes selected crypto-assets for its clients, and it publishes no fixed list of coins for staking. Crypto-assets in custody also count as additional collateral for a Lombard loan, so clients can borrow against them as they would against a securities portfolio. Such a loan is a form of crypto lending in which the coins stay pledged in the custody account at the same bank.

Execution only, mandate or external asset manager

Kaiser Partner Privatbank gives investors three ways to hold digital assets. With execution only, the client decides alone and the bank gives no advice on the trades. In a discretionary mandate, a form of crypto wealth management, the bank adds digital assets to the portfolio, and the client sets the share of this asset class according to the risk profile. As a third route, an external asset manager makes all investment decisions for the client.

Token custodian under the TVTG and MiCA notification

The Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority supervises Kaiser Partner Privatbank, and under the Token and Trusted Technology Service Provider Act (TVTG) the bank is registered as a token custodian. Crypto-assets in custody are segregated for the client under Article 56c of the Liechtenstein Banking Act, so they do not fall into the bankruptcy estate if the bank fails.

On 29 June 2026 the bank notified the FMA under Article 60 of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation for four services: custody and administration of crypto-assets, reception and transmission of orders, portfolio management and transfers for clients. As a bank it needs no separate CASP license for them, and ESMA lists the notification for all 30 states of the European Economic Area.

Custodian bank for asset managers and funds

Independent asset managers and trustees keep client accounts at the bank, which serves them through its Banking for Professionals unit under deputy CEO Hermann Neusüss. Asset managers work with an e-banking system built for their needs and with the Electronic Data Delivery service, which sends client data to them on a secure channel.

For Liechtenstein and foreign funds, the bank acts as depositary bank for UCITS, AIFs and funds under the Liechtenstein Investment Undertakings Act. It has no fund management company, no financial products of its own and no sales agreements, so it limits itself to the custodian role.

Securitization and paying agent services

Most of the securitization business of the bank runs through bonds. As paying agent it handles interest payments and repayment at maturity for the investors, and it can issue the bonds or the shares of a special purpose vehicle as electronic securities with an ISIN. Investors then hold them at a bank of their choice, and the issuer can list them on an exchange or another trading venue.
