Thurgauer Kantonalbank
Thurgauer Kantonalbank is the cantonal bank of Thurgau, a public-law bank with a state guarantee founded in 1871 and based in Weinfelden. Since 4 September 2024 its clients with a TKB custody account can buy, sell and hold cryptocurrencies in Digital Banking OLIVIA, starting from a trade value of CHF 200.
The bank built the offer together with Zürcher Kantonalbank, which settles the trades and holds the coins as partner bank, so TKB clients need no private key and no wallet of their own. The list started with bitcoin and ether and now also includes Solana and Chainlink, and the bank gives no investment advice on these coins.
TKB crypto: bitcoin, ether, solana and chainlink
Clients of Thurgauer Kantonalbank trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Chainlink in Digital Banking OLIVIA, their holdings appear in the online banking and in the tax statement, and the trading currency is the US dollar. Orders go through the business-to-business service of Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Crypto Finance AG of the Deutsche Börse Group executes them.
The TKB bundles all client crypto transactions at the end of each day and books them together, a method called net settlement. According to the bank, this saves energy and lowers the greenhouse gas emissions of the offer.
Fees and terms for crypto trading
The TKB charges 0.90 percent of the traded amount on each crypto trade, and the smallest order is CHF 200. The custody fee is the normal TKB custody rate plus a surcharge of 0.10 percent, which gives 0.35 percent a year according to the product sheet of December 2025. Only clients resident in Switzerland who are not taxable in the United States can use the offer, and they need a TKB custody account.
Custody, transfers and payments
The partner bank keeps the coins in crypto custody, so clients do not manage keys themselves. Clients cannot transfer coins in from other platforms or out to their own wallets, and they cannot pay with the coins held in the TKB custody account. The bank does not suggest crypto investments, so every trade is the decision of the client.

Opening an account and a custody account
New clients open a TKB account online, and existing clients without a custody account open one in a few steps in Digital Banking OLIVIA. A client who already holds a TKB custody account can start trading cryptocurrencies at once. The bank publishes a step-by-step guide and its conditions for crypto trading on its website.
Head office in Weinfelden and branches
Thurgauer Kantonalbank has its head office at Bankplatz 1, 8570 Weinfelden, and runs 29 branches in the canton, among them Frauenfeld and Kreuzlingen. More than half of all companies in Thurgau bank with it, its total assets come to CHF 36 billion, and Thomas Koller is its CEO.
Owners and participation certificate
The canton of Thurgau is the main owner of the bank, provides CHF 320 million of its capital and grants it a full state guarantee. A further CHF 80 million of capital is placed with the public as non-voting participation certificates with a nominal value of CHF 20 each. These certificates have been listed on the stock exchange since 2014, so investors who search for the TKB stock buy a participation certificate.
