Tokeny

Tokeny is a Luxembourg company that builds software for issuing and managing securities as tokens on a blockchain, with the investor checks that securities law requires. Asset managers, banks and issuers use its technology to put funds, bonds and shares on a blockchain and to control who may hold and transfer them.

Tokeny created ERC-3643, the open-source token standard for permissioned securities, and it states that more than 32 billion US dollars in assets have been tokenized with its technology. Apex Group took a majority stake in Tokeny in May 2025 and plans to take full control within three years.

T-REX and the ERC-3643 standard

Tokeny sells its technology as the T-REX Platform and the T-REX Engine, named after T-REX, the original name of the standard that became ERC-3643. A token under this standard checks before every transfer whether the receiving wallet belongs to a verified investor, using an identity record called ONCHAINID that holds the results of the KYC check. A transfer to an unverified wallet fails, so an issuer can enforce the investor rules of a fund or a bond on a public blockchain.

Majority owner Apex Group

Fund administrator Apex Group invested in Tokeny in December 2023 and announced its majority stake on 21 May 2025. At that time Tokeny counted more than 120 use cases on five continents and 3 billion onchain transactions and operations. Peter Hughes, founder and chief executive of Apex Group, said in the announcement: "Tokenization is a foundational shift in how assets will be managed, distributed, and accessed." Tokeny chief executive Luc Falempin added that "to bring tokenization to scale, institutional distribution and credibility are key."

Tokenized funds with Apex Digital 3.0

Apex Group names Tokeny as the default partner for the blockchain register in its digital asset fund services, which combine investor onboarding, fund administration, transfer agency and reporting for tokenized funds. In August 2025 SkyBridge Capital began to tokenize 300 million US dollars of its hedge funds with Tokeny through Apex Digital 3.0. The fund manager keeps the legal fund, and the token in the investor wallet stands for a share in it.

Tokeny in Luxembourg

Tokeny is registered as Tokeny sàrl in Munsbach, east of Luxembourg City. Luxembourg law allows securities to be held in accounts on a blockchain and to be issued directly in such registers, so Luxembourg funds can keep their register of shareholders as tokens. Tokeny builds its registers on the same laws that govern tokenization in Luxembourg for every other issuer there.

Is there a Tokeny stock or coin?

Tokeny shares do not trade on a stock exchange, because Tokeny is a Luxembourg sàrl, a private limited company, and Apex Group holds the majority. Tokeny has no coin of its own either, because its software issues tokens on behalf of clients, and each token stands for a client fund, bond or share.
