BTC-ECHO

BTC-ECHO is a German-language publication about Bitcoin, blockchain technology and digital assets. The editorial team publishes news, analysis and explanations of technology, markets and regulation. The publication serves investors and readers who follow developments in the crypto sector professionally or out of personal interest.

Changes in crypto markets and regulation can be difficult to follow without explanations of the underlying technology and business models. BTC-ECHO combines market analysis with interviews and podcasts to explain those developments. BTC-ECHO also covers decentralized finance, including financial services implemented through programs on blockchain networks.

Bitcoin news and market reporting

BTC-ECHO GmbH is registered in Kranenburg on the Lower Rhine. The BTC-ECHO newsroom is in Berlin. Mark Preuß is managing director, and Sven Wagenknecht is editor-in-chief. The platform publishes daily crypto news, a price section with charts, market analyses, a podcast and courses in the BTC-ECHO Academy, and it has its own app.

BTC-ECHO also reports on banking and market infrastructure. The BTC-ECHO interview with the group CEO discusses the EU expansion of Börse Stuttgart Digital (in German). A separate report follows the 100 million euro bond from NRW.BANK issued on Polygon (in German).

Crypto news in Germany: the field BTC-ECHO covers

Crypto news in German deals with the same subjects as crypto news anywhere, plus German law and German tax. The rules that come up most are MiCA, the EU regulation under which BaFin licenses crypto exchanges and custodians in Germany, and the one-year holding period for private bitcoin sales. Under section 23 of the Einkommensteuergesetz, a private investor who sells bitcoin after more than a year pays no tax on the gain. A draft bill would replace this with a flat withholding tax from 2027, and the Bitcoin Bundesverband has petitioned the Bundestag to keep the holding period.

For professionals the news also covers banks that enter crypto, tokenized securities under the German eWpG and stablecoins under MiCA. MiCA sets the framework for these services, including the CASP license for providers.

BTC-ECHO and Finance Loop

BTC-ECHO and Finance Loop announced their partnership on 25 February 2025. Editor-in-chief Sven Wagenknecht said that both want to promote the exchange of know-how, perspectives and ideas, and to connect solution providers with the industry, with a focus on events. As part of the partnership, BTC-ECHO became a partner of TechClub 25/3, the fintech and blockchain party Finance Loop held with TechQuartier in Frankfurt on 25 March 2025, the evening before the Crypto Assets Conference.

BTC-ECHO is an event and network partner of Finance Loop (Finance Loop; its look back on 2025). The partnership covers reporting on DeFi in Germany and onchain finance.

Does BTC-ECHO have a podcast?

BTC-ECHO produces a podcast on bitcoin and crypto next to its news site, and it lists the episodes on btc-echo.de. The BTC-ECHO Academy offers courses for people who want to learn about crypto step by step.

Is crypto legal in Germany?

Buying, holding and selling bitcoin and other crypto-assets is legal in Germany. Firms that exchange, trade or hold crypto for customers need a license from BaFin under MiCA, and a private investor pays tax on a sale within one year of purchase. The same license requirement applies to crypto exchanges in Germany.

Does BTC-ECHO hold events?

BTC-ECHO named events as the main field of its cooperation with Finance Loop, and it supported TechClub 25/3 in Frankfurt. Current Finance Loop events on crypto-assets, DeFi and web3 are on the events page.
