European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona

The European Blockchain Convention (EBC) describes itself as the place "where the digital assets industry meets to get business done", and it is the European conference where banks, asset managers and supervisors sit on the same panels as exchanges and protocol teams. The next edition takes place on September 23 and 24, 2027 in Barcelona. If your institution has a digital asset mandate to execute rather than to study, this is a two-day round of meetings.

Who organizes the convention

The convention is run by the European Blockchain Convention organization and has been held in Barcelona for years, with the twelfth edition in September 2026. The organizer's own site keeps the positioning commercial: the program is built around meetings and deals, and the agenda follows what the digital asset market is doing in Europe at the time.

For the September 2026 edition, press coverage names more than 6,000 attendees from over 70 countries and 300 speakers, in a report by FF News. The same coverage notes that the edition landed after the MiCA rules took full effect, which shifted the audience toward banks and asset managers.

What the program covers

Market structure and institutional adoption lead the agenda: how a bank books a digital asset, who settles it, and which licenses it needs under MiCA. Tokenization of real-world assets, stablecoins, custody and settlement follow, each treated as an operational question rather than a concept.

Web3 infrastructure and investment complete the program. The infrastructure sessions matter to institutions that must decide whether to run their own node infrastructure or buy it, a decision that sits with technology teams long after the asset decision is made.

Who attends, and what Barcelona adds

The attendee mix is the reason European institutions travel: exchanges, banks, asset managers, protocol teams and policymakers in one hall, which is rare outside the large fintech fairs. The conference is a place for a compliance officer and a trading desk to meet the counterparty they will later onboard.

Barcelona gives the convention a Southern European audience that a Frankfurt or London event does not reach in the same depth, with Spanish, Portuguese and Italian institutions well represented. The 2026 edition has its own page at European Blockchain Convention 2026.

When is the European Blockchain Convention 2027?

The next edition takes place on September 23 and 24, 2027 in Barcelona, as the organizer's website states. The site does not yet name the venue for that edition. September has been the convention's regular slot, which puts it after the summer and before the autumn conference season in Germany.

How does EBC differ from a crypto-native conference?

EBC is built around institutional business, so the questions on stage are licensing, custody, settlement and distribution rather than protocol design. A developer conference such as EthCC goes deeper into the technology, and a bitcoin-only event such as BTC Prague covers one asset. The overview of crypto conferences in Europe explains which kind answers which question.

What does MiCA mean for the agenda?

MiCA gives the convention its practical subject matter: a European bank or asset manager now has a rulebook to work with, so the sessions deal with how to apply it. That covers licensing routes, the treatment of stablecoin issuance, and what a supervisor expects of custody and record keeping. Finance Loop covers the same ground in its Risk & Compliance track.

The European Blockchain Convention and Finance Loop

Finance Loop is the meeting place for digital assets in European finance, and its members are the people the convention is built for: product owners at banks, portfolio managers, compliance officers and the infrastructure providers who serve them. Finance Loop covers the convention's subjects in its Investment & Digital Assets and Risk & Compliance tracks, from tokenization to MiCA.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the adoption of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
