Skrill

Skrill is a digital wallet for online payments and money transfers that Paysafe runs alongside its second wallet NETELLER. Customers hold balances in euros or other currencies, pay online merchants and send money to other users, and in the countries where Skrill offers its crypto service they can also buy, hold and sell crypto assets from the same balance.

Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited in Dublin is the company behind both wallets in Europe. The Central Bank of Ireland authorized it under MiCA on 3 December 2025, and with that license Skrill and NETELLER offer crypto services across the European Economic Area, including Germany, where Paysafe could offer the full service for the first time.

From Moneybookers to Skrill

Skrill began as Moneybookers, a UK e-money company with more than 15 million account holders and 70,000 merchants when it announced its new name in November 2010. The investment firm Investcorp had bought a majority stake in Moneybookers in 2007 for 105 million euros.

In 2015 Optimal Payments, which owned NETELLER, bought the Skrill group, and the combined company renamed itself Paysafe Group in the same year. Since then both wallets have belonged to one company, which also runs the prepaid payment brand paysafecard.

Authorization under MiCA

The Central Bank of Ireland authorized Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited as a crypto-asset service provider on 3 December 2025. The interim register of ESMA lists custody and administration of crypto assets, exchange of crypto assets for money, exchange of one crypto asset for another and transfers on behalf of clients.

The entry names 30 states of the European Economic Area, Ireland included, which a CASP license covers through the MiCA passport. Both wallet brands run their crypto services under this one authorization, and the register gives 15 George's Quay in Dublin as the address.

Paysafe and its digital wallets

Paysafe announced in April 2026 that the MiCA license let Skrill and NETELLER offer their full crypto service in Germany for the first time, and it called Germany its largest digital wallet market in Europe. Bob Legters, Chief Product Officer at Paysafe, said the license lets users in Germany buy and sell crypto in a fully regulated way.

Paysafe has about 2,800 employees in 12 countries and reported an annualized transaction volume of 167 billion dollars for 2025. Both wallets also hold e-money licenses, which cover the euro and other currency balances that customers convert into crypto.

What is Skrill?

Skrill is a digital wallet in which customers hold money, pay online merchants and send money to other users, with crypto trading as an added service. Skrill names more than 40 cryptocurrencies in its marketing, while the list of supported coins in its FAQ names 37, among them Bitcoin.

Buying and selling crypto in the wallet

Customers convert their wallet balance in euros, dollars or another currency into crypto and sell it back into money in the same app. The minimum per trade is about 1 euro, the maximum follows the transaction limits of the account, and according to Skrill the trades run through partner crypto exchanges.

Sending crypto to external wallets

In selected countries customers can convert money into crypto and send it to an external crypto address, for example a wallet of their own. Skrill does not publish a list of these countries, and transfers of this kind fall under the travel rule for crypto assets in the EU.

Fees, limits and supported countries

Skrill charges its crypto fees at the time of each transaction and lists the amounts in a separate fee overview. The crypto service is not available in every country where Skrill runs its wallet, and the trading pairs on offer can vary with the country in which the account is registered.

Crypto with NETELLER

NETELLER, the second wallet of Paysafe, offers crypto under the same MiCA authorization of Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited. Customers of NETELLER buy and sell crypto from their wallet balance, and the ESMA register lists both brand names under one entry for the Dublin company.
