Swiss Blockchain Federation (SBF)
The Swiss Blockchain Federation (SBF) is a public-private partnership of cantons, banks, companies and individuals that works for Switzerland as a place for blockchain business. It was founded in Zurich in October 2018 as the successor to the Blockchain Taskforce of December 2017. Its stated aim is legal certainty for blockchain activities in Switzerland.
The SBF's working groups write position papers and statements on subjects such as staking and stablecoin supervision, and the federation holds events for its members. Heinz Tännler, member of the Zug cantonal government and its finance director, is president, and Pascal Ihle is managing director.
Cantons and members
Seven cantons are members: Bern, Geneva, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Ticino, Zug and Zurich. Banks, public institutions, companies, startups, donors and individuals join as well, and the annual fee depends on the category: CHF 7,000 for cantons, banks and public institutions, CHF 6,000 for companies, CHF 5,000 for donors, CHF 2,000 for startups and CHF 1,000 for individuals.
Heinz Tännler of the canton of Zug, home of the Crypto Valley, has been president since the founding.
Publications and positions
The SBF's 12-point program sets out proposals to strengthen Switzerland as a financial hub. Its statements address the supervision of stablecoins, crypto staking and financial market regulation, and the federation has published and updated a circular on staking.
Besides members' events, such as one in Zug in November 2025, the SBF holds events on the CARF and CRS tax reporting rules. In 2024 it was a partner of the Point Zero Forum in Zurich.
