zerohash

zerohash is an American infrastructure company that lets banks, brokers, fintechs and payment firms offer crypto trading, custody and stablecoin payments to their own customers through an API. The firm handles the regulated part of these services, from custody and settlement to compliance checks, while its clients keep the customer relationship and their own brand.

zerohash europe B.V. in Amsterdam is the European company of the group. The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets authorized it under MiCA as a crypto-asset service provider, and De Nederlandsche Bank later added a license as an electronic money institution, so it can serve clients across the European Economic Area.

Founded in Chicago in 2017

Edward Woodford founded zerohash in 2017 and leads the group as chief executive from its headquarters in Chicago. The company has about 200 employees with offices in New York, Chicago, North Carolina and Amsterdam, and in September 2025 it raised 104 million dollars in a round led by Interactive Brokers at a valuation of one billion dollars.

In the United States zerohash holds a BitLicense from the New York State Department of Financial Services and is a licensed money transmitter in 51 jurisdictions. Its product lines cover trading and custody, stablecoin pay-ins and payouts, tokenization and a set of tools for agentic payments made by software agents.

Authorization under MiCA

The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets authorized zerohash europe B.V. as a crypto-asset service provider under Article 63 of MiCA, and the interim register of ESMA dates the authorization 29 October 2025. The company announced it on 2 November 2025 and said that the license explicitly covers embedded crypto and stablecoin services that a business offers to its own end customers.

The register lists five services: custody and administration of crypto assets, operation of a trading platform for crypto assets, exchange of crypto assets for money or for other crypto assets, and transfers on behalf of clients. The entry names 30 states of the European Economic Area, the Netherlands included, which is the reach of a CASP license under the MiCA passport.

E-money license from De Nederlandsche Bank

In May 2026 De Nederlandsche Bank granted zerohash europe a license as an electronic money institution, and The Block described the firm as the first with a MiCA authorization that also holds full e-money status. The European Banking Authority had written in a no-action letter of June 2025 that firms moving stablecoin payments also need authorization under the payment services rules.

Roeland Goldberg, managing director of zerohash europe, told The Block that Europe has a massive market for stablecoin applications. With both licenses the Amsterdam company can handle crypto-asset services and e-money flows for banks, brokers, fintechs and payment providers across the European market.
